A
Letter from our President…
From the gazebos at Buxton Park and the high
school to the amphitheater at Memorial Park to
building the shelter at the trailhead at the
bicycle trail (our centennial project), the
Rotary Club of Indianola has been visible in the
community. What aren’t as visible are the
donations to school groups, Helping Hand, and
other organizations in the community. The Rotary
Club now sponsors the annual book sale on
Ridiculous Days. In addition, this club bought a
20-year-old fire truck from the Indianola Fire
Department and sent it to Tequila, Mexico, a
town of about 150,000 that had no fire equipment
previously.
It isn’t just local involvement either. This
club believes so strongly in the value of
international exchange that we participate in a
Rotary International project annually. Our
current project involves building an 8 cubic
meter concrete water tank for a school in El
Salvador. When the tsunami hit in South Asia,
Rotarians in this club dug deep to help others
throughout the world. On a more local level, we
have hosted a foreign exchange student annually
for as long as anyone can remember.
I saw Rotary as a way to become involved in the
community and meet people. I’ve done that but I
have also been exposed to what can happen when a
few people gather weekly and seriously consider
the question “Will it be Beneficial to all
concerned” One group can make a difference and
we’re doing that here in Indianola – and around
the world.
